Take Alcoa yard conveyor #395 at Alcoa’s Willowdale mine site. It feeds the stockpile yard from Willowdale mine site for reclaiming when Wagerup refinery requires feed stock. The original gearbox was failing, repairs were very expensive and a new original gearbox was no longer available.
Inline, assessed the application for handling the 4pole 315 kW motor that obtain the required working capacity of 2400 T.P.H. on a 24 hour duty cycle. Conveyor start up is controlled via a fill controlled hydrodynamic coupling. Typically working at full load, in ambient air of 30 ~ 35C.
The solution, a replacement direct ‘drop in’ Donly gearbox was offered, an affordable, simple and timely resolution to the issue.
